wow! It´s been a long time since I posted a new blog entry - almost a year ago. But today I have the time and leasure to show you the creation process of another piece from my gallery.

I made the following capture in July 2017 when walking through the streets of Berlin. I simply love the sunny days, because the sun accentuates interesting shadows on the walls. The facade shown below caught my eye:

I always think in squares, so the right and left side of the picture were not of interest to me. My camera settings allow to add a "square frame" to the live-view of the camera screen, thus facilitating to find the right crop already at the time of capturing the photo. The middle part of the photograph shows a lot of interesting shadows and geometric forms. There are also a lot of fascinating contrasts in the picture. I positioned myself a bit closer to the wall to focus on the relevant aspects.

The 1:1 square aspect ratio resulted in the following picture:

Post-processing of photographs is a very important part of my creative process. In this case, I was pretty sure that a black and white conversion would look much better. Furthermore, there are some very subtle shadows in the picture that are almost invisible to the eye (e.g., a triangular shadow on the upper left side of the picture). Therefore, I used tone curves to unfold the variety of grey tones in the photograph. Lastly, I added some contrasts to accentuate the structural pattern of the wall.
